HIFU – HIGH INTENSITY FOCUSED ULTRASOUND

WHAT IS IT:

A non-surgical means of lifting, contouring and smoothing the face and the body using specialised Ultrasound technology.

This powerful form of ultrasound energy precisely deposits intense, tiny points of heat into the skin, fat or muscle without affected the surrounding tissue or skin surface. HIFU technology has been used extensively in medicine and has now been adapted for safe and effective aesthetic treatments. Ultraformer 3 uses both Micro-Focused Ultrasound and Macro-Focused Ultrasound, dependant on if one is lifting or sculpting.

WHAT IS IT FOR:

WHAT HAPPENS:
After careful assessment of the area and your medical history, the skin is marked out to guide the treatment process. Ultrasound gel is applied, then the chosen HIFU handpiece is worked over the treatment area. Rows of rapid, precisely aimed HIFU energy is released, creating what is best described as a warm prickling sensation. This is repeated over the whole treatment area, potentially at different treatment depths, to contour and achieve results specifically suited to your individual needs.

Ultraformer III HIFU device is KFDA and CE MDD registered and approved and focuses ultrasound energy in a similar way to sunlight being reflected through a magnifying glass, delivering an intense beam, reaching between 65-75 degrees Celsius in the target area. These pinpoint, finely controlled micro-injuries in the skin, SMAS muscle, or fat, initiates a powerful wound healing response thereby using the bodies natural resources to lay down new collagen. This results in the area being lifted and contoured and the skin’s quality improving.

This non-invasive treatment leaves the skin surface untouched which means that there is no requirement for the photosensitivity considerations associated with Peels and laser treatments, and the infection prevention measures that are required with Microneedling or other treatment where the skin surface is broken. The treatment is powerful, accurate and safe with no real down time.

MORE INFORMATION:

Transferring stabilised temperatures of 65 - 75°C into the targeted zones results in neocollagenesis, the bodies natural collagen and tissue building process, which once set into action creates the desired regenerating and lifting effect. Treatments such as radio frequency work at around 42°C which means structural changes to tissue are not as reliably attained.

The first High Intensity Focused Ultrasound device approved for Aesthetic treatments was the Ulthera® Ultherapy device. Ulthera® uses higher energy levels resulting in significantly more discomfort and sometimes requires less treatments.

HIFU CLASSIC 3 DIMENSIONAL LIFT

WHAT IS IT:
A treatment where Ultraformer III and high Intensity Focused Ultrasound (HIFU) is used to refresh, lift and contour facial features.

Micro and macro HIFU is a proven non-invasive means of improving the contour of the face by lifting lax muscle and skin, smoothing jowls and dropped pockets of fatty tissue. This is not a surgical procedure and cannot replace cosmetic surgery but visible, subtle results can be achieved. HIFU is one of the best ways to reveal a more youthful jawline, cheek contour and skin tightening outside surgical intervention. Thorough and expert assessment is essential in order to evaluate suitability. Importantly, the SMAS muscle can be accessed and treated. HIFU, surgery and thread lifts are the only procedures to be able to do so.

DOWNTIME:

None.

DISCOMFORT LEVEL:

Moderate dependent on tolerance level.

RECOMMENDED FREQUENCY:

One to three treatments, dependent on age and required change, three months apart.

NEED TO KNOW:

Treatment on areas containing aesthetic threads, implants or recent dermal fillers may be contraindicated.  Filler type, date of treatment and other factors are a consideration. It may also be possible to avoid previous treatment areas involved.

A headache may follow HIFU treatment on the forehead area.

If there is a history of herpes (cold sores) on the treatment area, the prophylactic use of antiviral creams or oral antivirals is recommended prior and post treatment.

Slight redness and subtle swelling may be experienced post treatment usually lasting for a few hours to a few days. There is also a possibility of bruising or welts after treatment but this is rare. Generally, people are fine to immediately go back to their routines, sometimes with a little mineral make up applied.

Avoid saunas, steam baths and exercise for 24 hours after treatment

Apply broad spectrum sun protection for a week post treatment.

Results take at least three months to manifest.

HIFU MimicSmooth

WHAT IS IT:

This treatment helps smooth mimic lines on the forehead, around the eyes, mouth and chin, using a revolutionary, gentler macro focused 2mm depth HIFU and Ultraformer III.

MimicSmooth is a suitable treatment when wrinkle-reducing injections are not an option, are contraindicated, or for those who have had injectables and want to add a different dimension of effect.  HIFU tightens and smooths the deep skin tissues and where they connect to the underlying attached muscle, thereby stimulating collagen production and improving lines, wrinkles and contours. Forehead, eyes and lips are refreshed and relaxed.

DISCOMFORT LEVEL:

Mild, dependant on tolerance level.

RECOMMENDED FREQUENCY:

One to three treatments, dependent on age and required change, one to three months apart.

HIFU SkinTighten >

WHAT IS IT:

Unlike deeper SMAS treatment, dermal or skin level HIFU can be done more regularly as a means of creating new collagen and toning the skin itself. It is also a safe and suitable treatment for those with the first signs of ageing and where the deeper muscle tissues like the SMAS have not yet shown signs of deterioration and do not need to be treated.

Although they have different actions and different effects, it is an alternative to Microneedling treatments for those who are needle phobic, are contraindicated, or who find the recovery time hard to fit into their busy schedule.

DISCOMFORT LEVEL:

Mild, dependant on tolerance level.

RECOMMENDED FREQUENCY:

One to three treatments, dependent on the required change, at three month intervals or more.

HIFU JOWL AND DOUBLE CHIN IMPROVE >

WHAT IS IT:

Three dimensional bespoke treatment for the submental and jawline area.

HIFU energy accurately targets the fatty tissue, the SMAS muscle and potentially the skin, smoothing, slimming and contouring the area. This is a nonsurgical treatment that cannot replace surgery but visible changes can be achieved. By treating the skin and muscle it helps alleviate the danger of resultant lax skin, as can occur when treatments exclusively target fat. Combining HIFU with other fat reducing methods such as liposuction or BELKYRA®(Kybella®) is also possible if suitable.

DISCOMFORT LEVEL:

Mild, dependant on tolerance level.

RECOMMENDED FREQUENCY:

One to three treatments, dependent on the required change, at three month intervals or more.

HIFU CONTOUR AND TIGHTEN >

WHAT IS IT:

HIFU can be an efficient means of precisely reducing pockets of fat and tightening skin tissue. It is an excellent postnatal treatment, is suitable for many areas and can target tissue as deep as 13mm under the surface of the skin. The results are more consistent, due to the reliability of the positioning and intensity, than other beneficial modalities such as Radio Frequency.

MORE INFORMATION:

Cartridges applied to the skin send HIFU energy into deeper tissues where they disrupt and destroy targeted fat cells. These are then transferred through the body’s lymphatic system to the liver. Fat cell debris targeted by Ultraformer III undergo natural disposal through the body’s metabolism, very much like the process of daily food metabolism.

DISCOMFORT LEVEL:

Mild, dependant on tolerance level.

RECOMMENDED FREQUENCY:

Three to eight treatments, dependent on required change, at one to three month intervals.

NEED TO KNOW:

Avoid exercise for two days after treatment and wear loose clothing.

Slight redness or swelling may be experience post treatment, usually lasting for a few hours to a couple of days. Welts or bruising may occur but this is not usual.
